If you have ever wanted to enter the restaurant business, now might be a good opportunity. We have just been instructed to market two very well-known Cambridge establishments.
The Peking Restaurant in Burleigh Street and the combined Ugly Ducking and Big Buddha Restaurant in St Johns Street are on the market. The leaseholds of both restaurants are for sale with offers invited.
According to Local Secrets website; “The Peking really is something of a local secret. It would be easy to make the mistake of judging this book by its cover, and it would be a big mistake. You would be missing some of the very best Chinese food ever sampled. . . . Unlike many Chinese restaurants The Peking makes their own sweet and sour sauce from scratch daily, and then tries to persuade you to have something nicer!”
The premises have a ground floor restaurant, kitchen and bar area of around 860 sq ft with a further first floor restaurant of 315 sq ft. It is well situated in the Grafton Centre area with pedestrian access to Fitzroy Street.
The Ugly Duckling and Big Buddha attracts similar praise. “The spacious layout with candlelight and gentle music creates a very romantic atmosphere. You can choose between the three distinct sections depending on your mood and the occasion: The small eating area through which you enter with a busy bar, a second room upstairs which gives diners an unusual birds eye view of St Johns College architecture; and the third room at the back which is the largest and contains some striking black and white photographs by Man Ray. Upstairs is another room, which is used mainly for private parties. . . . The Ugly Duckling specializes in Schechuan and Peking food, and excels at the richly flavoured, hot and peppery dishes, sweet and sour combinations and, of course the duck dishes for which they are well known.”
The two restaurant areas cater for 62 covers and offer a total floor area of 2,320 sq ft comprising of basement, ground floor and four additional upper floors. The premises are located in the historic centre of Cambridge in the midst of one of the main tourist areas.
