Cambridge City Council had objectives to maximise the Guildhall’s civic presence in the City; make the Guildhall more welcoming to the public; improve the use of its resources; re-use the vacant Court rooms; retain the box office close to the Corn Exchange; create an outward looking presence onto Peas Hill and Wheeler Street, all the while respecting Listed Building, Conservation Area and ongoing operational constraints.

Januarys advised and then acted in pre-building contract, project management and Agency capacities for Cambridge City Council to deliver their ambitious plans to reuse the former County Court on the Peas Hill side of the Guildhall, converting it into a Visitor Centre with shop, café and ‘Visitor Experience’ in the former court; meanwhile relocating its box office to a redundant shop on Wheeler Street and letting the former Visitor Centre with its beautiful rotunda to Jamie Oliver’s Jamie’s Italian restaurant chain.
