Contracts exchanged on Haverhill development

July 2011

A 2.5 hectare (6.1 acre) site on Hamlet Road in Haverhill has moved one step closer to being developed after Bloor Homes exchanged contracts with St Edmundsbury Borough Council.

The site, a former football ground with some additional adjoining land, was for sale freehold and with vacant possession and, subject to planning permission, Bloor Homes is intending to build around 100, 2-4 bedroom houses.

As Head of our Agency Department Nick Muncey explains, the exchange of contracts is a substantial step forward after what has been a thorough process to find the right bidder.

“When we first put the project out to tender, we had thirteen parties bidding for it. We whittled these down to three, all of whom we interviewed.

“Both Januarys and the council are confident that the right developer has won. The homes will be in traditional styles, as befits Haverhill, and Bloor Homes and ourselves have been in regular contact with the council to ensure that what we are proposing is appropriate for the site.

“It has been extremely useful for all parties to meet so regularly, as it means a lot of the potential difficulties can be ironed out before a formal set of plans is submitted to the Council. Although there is still a good deal of work to be done, I am confident that the development can now move ahead quickly and efficiently.”
