November 2011
The annual Cambridge University v Steele Bodgers XI fixture has proved to yet again be an excellent day out for all involved in the Cambridge property market. However for consultant surveyors Januarys, who once again played host to the Hawks Club Marquee, it was a day tinged with sadness.
Our late Chairman and former Managing Director John Callin who passed away on 29th October after a short illness always played a prominent role in organising the firm’s attendance at the match, a presence which has been felt for over 15 years.
A moving and poignant toast to John was made by Managing Director, Simon Dazeley.
“We felt it was necessary to pay tribute to John and all he has done for us,” said Simon “As well as raising a glass as a toast to remember the man he was I am pleased to say that on the day we raised a total of £400 which will go directly to melanoma research at Cancer Research UK.
“The project is investigating drugs that might help to reduce the chance or recurrence in patients who have had operations to remove melanoma and which may have been something John would have been able to take advantage of.
“The day was thoroughly enjoyed by all and was an excellent opportunity to socialise with so many colleagues from a variety of fields within the Cambridge property market. Although John’s absence was felt by all it was a superb day and I would like to thank everyone for their generosity in helping us to raise so much for such a good cause.”
